FindForum is a freeware utility designed to find forum-based communities where you can ask your question. One cannot be experienced and skillful in all problems and situations. 

We often need to ask for advice, for most cases on-line communities is a right place to go, but there is a problem of finding such on-line communities.

We designed FindForum to help finding on-line forum-based communities. With FindForum you can find popular forums that are related to your problem. Then you may visit them and ask a question here. 

FindForum do a search and first-impression analysis for you. It will find a forum and tell you if it's popular enough to ask a questions and have an answer in a reasonable time.

How to use FindForum

First, let me clarify what FindForum does:

  1. It search for your request in search engine and obtain a list of forum
  2. It analyze every found forum and tell you if it's popular  

Start using FindForum:

  1. Run the program. Make sure you have an Internet connection. Make sure your firewall will let FindForum access the net.
  2. Enter your keyword into "Community keyword" field. Put there some common used keywords (two words is the better choice). 
  3. Click "Start Search" button.
  4. Wait for a while. If you have a fast Internet connection then it will take about one second. If your connection is slow then you will learn about the progress in "Log" box at the bottom and in "Status" textbox under keyword textbox.
  5. If everything is OK you will have a lot of URLs in "Research results" list.
  6. Learn forum's popularity - average and max posts number.FindForum will then be researching URLs one by one and putting information in "Posts average" and "Posts max" columns.

Make use of information:

  • Now you can learn if the forum is popular enough. Popular forums usually have about thousands posts.
  • Errors and problems. See "Known issues" section below, probably we already know how to help you. Also, you can drop a message to findforum@aks-labs.com

Possible problems - known issues

  • I open Find Forum, put search key, click "Start Search" button, but the program doesn't get me any URLs, the log indicates that it cannot connect to internet what the problem might be?

    -- Check your internet connection
    -- Make sure you are not running a firewall that denies the program to access net

 

  • Having "Bad Download" in result field This means that Find Forum was not able to parse the data from this web-site.

    The reasons might be:
    -- page was not downloaded correctly
    -- program was not able to find index page
    -- if it was download incorrectly then after downloading all files from list program will return back to this file and will try to download it again

 

  • The status became Fatal.  Find Forum tried to download this page several times, but fail to parse the data. It's now fatal.

 

  • URLMON Access Violation error

    Occurs due to urlmon.dll, we have no fix for this problem (Microsoft suggests a urlmon.dll fix at it's web-site), but we have a solution to skip the problem: go to options and decrease threads number to 2 or 1.
