QuickWiper's short description

What is QuickWiper?

QuickWiper is a file wipe utility. You should use it to securely erase files from your system. 

How do you delete files in Windows? You are moving them it into Recycle Bin, aren't you? In fact such files remain on your hand disk. Windows just mark their place as free. So anybody can recover your data.

Should I use QuickWiper in my work?

Do you have any personal files? Yes? So if you don't want that somebody will recover and read your data - use such software as QuickWiper. 

Use it when you wipe confidential files or to delete simple data. QuickWiper integrate in system shell so it is very easy in use. Learn more about QuickWiper's features.

System integration

I don't want to complicate my work with computer. Is QuickWiper easy in use? 

QuickWiper was created as system that you can use without any training. Why? Because of QuickWiper's interface and using are almost the same as interface and using of Windows Recycle Bin. For example: what do you do to delete file in Windows? - Drop it to the Recycle Bin. So do the same with QuickWiper.

And how can I run wiper?

There are four main ways how you can do it:

1. Drop your files at QuickWiper's icon at your desktop. 

2. Open QuickWiper and drag-and-drop necessary files on it's form.

3. Right-click on the necessary file and select QuickWiper

4. Use Add File or Add Folder options in File menu of QuickWiper.

Note that you there is no difference between file and folder - so you can do the same operations with folders.

Deleting and Wiping

OK. I've added files in QuickWiper what can I do?

You've just added files in QuickWiper's file list. Note the files are still at your hard disk and their location (path to the file) are the same. Now you can do the following:

1. You can delete files using standard Windows algorithms. 

2. You can wipe files with special overwriting algorithms.

3. You can save File List as file with wfl extension and don't make decision at that very time.   

4. You can remove file from File List. Note this operation doesn't delete or wipe file. You just tell QuickWiper - I've mistake and I don't want to do anything with this file.

Recovering Information

I've delete file with QuickWiper. How can I recover it.

1. First recollect: what option did you select to delete file. Was it DELETE or WIPE.

2. If DELETE: you've delete file using simple Windows deletion. So there is still possibility to recover it. You should use file recover utilities which are more convenient to you OS.

If WIPE: sorry, but you cannot recover this file. We can advice you to find out if there is backup copy of this file.

And if I'm not sure how did I erase file?

If your log option was on - open log.txt with any text editors and find the information on your deletion.

What is the principal of work in QuickWiper?

QuickWiper do just the same as other utilities - overwrite deleted files. But QuickWiper's interface and speed of work do the process of deleting/wiping more comfortable. Integration in System Shell makes your work quicker and you don't have to learn before using QuickWiper.

All the file data was overwritten with rubbish characters. Almost the same picture will be if anybody else recover your file.

NSA algorithm

I'd like to know more about overwriting algorithms. 

QuickWiper uses overwriting algorithms only while wiping (deletion performs with standard Windows functions).

By default wiping realizes with overwriting by random characters. It is works in 99 percent.

File will be first overwritten with "00000000" bits ( "0" byte), then with "11111111" ("255" byte) so we repeats six times and only then writes "11110110" bits ("246" byte). 

You can use NSA algorithm by checking "Use NSA erasure algorithm" option in QuickWiper's options menu. After that all wiping process will be realized with NSA. Note that it will take much more time to wipe big files. QuickWiper will wipe files slower by fours or five times.

So what should I use - standard or NSA wiping?

Well, if you are going to wipe small files (less than 50 MB for example) or small amount of files - use standard wiping algorithms.

If you are preparing you computer (or hard disk) for utilizing or sale - you should use NSA algorithm. 

IE Cache Clear, typed URLs and recent files clearing.

How can I use system clear menu?

There are several useful options: IE cache clear, IE typed URLs clear and Clear Recent Files.

When you working with IE (Internet Explorer) a lot of traces remains at your hard disk. It's the URLs of visited site, cookies - special files created by cgi or other scripts and temporary internet files - jpg and gif-pictures for example. 

If you are working with your home PC it is not a problem - nobody will not recover you traces or your passwords. But if you are outdoor - for example in Internet Cafe it might be a great problem. Off course you can clean history and cookies by yourself, but some URLs (typed) where written to the Registry so you cannot remove them.

Use QuickWiper! Just run it and select System Clear > Clear All. 

Note: there might be some problems with clearing  History - it is not program bug - it is then consequence of wrong IE setup. Be careful and check History manual.

Using QuickWiper's log.

QuickWiper's log is a simple text file where QuickWiper can write all the data about files and QuickWiper's operation. By default QuickWiper doesn't log your operations but it is possible to activate this function by selecting Options/Log/Log all operations. Check if you want to log all QuickWiper's operations.

Wiping Files

Select Wipe in QuickWiper's menu and then select Wipe Selected Files or Wipe All Files. Note: wiped files cannot be undeleted. 

Deleting Files

Select  Delete in QuickWiper's menu and then select Delete selected files or Delete All files. Note: files deleted with such methods can be easy recovered. 

File lists.

Please explain the idea of file lists.

Well, File List in QuickWiper is just a simple list of file. You can save it as file - list.wfl for example, (where wfl is Wiper File List) and then open it.  You can create New File List and add there any files. You can Print is.

Confirmation control

QuickWiper ask for confirmation for all my operation: for example I'm try to wipe file and QuickWiper ask, if am I sure want wipe this files. How can I turn the confirmation off?

Dialogs while deleting and wiping.

I've run wiping/deleting and there was dialog windows, describe was do every control show.

Ok. For example you've selected wipe files after the confirmation dialog QuickWiper will run wiping operation.

First QuickWiper have to calculate the size of all files and folders. 

Then QuickWiper begins to wipe files. 

Progress bar shows the current progress of wiping. Progress calculates by size of deleted files and the size of whole. There is also Cancel button, by clicking on it you can cancel Wiping/Deletion operation at any time.

Changing QuickWiper's view.

QuickWiper's view of file list is wonderful but some times I don't need such detailed information, what can I do.

QuickWiper let you select four types displaying of file list. Use QuickWiper's menu -> View to select anyone you like.

Changing QuickWiper's color

I don't like default QuickWiper's color. Maybe it's more reasonable to change background color in Red for example - to warn user before wiping or deleting

We've added such ability: open context menu (by right-clicking on QuickWiper's window) and use Change Background or Change Font Colors dialog.

We also added a special selection color for Wipe and Delete menu - try it.

Run your QuickWiper. Select: QuickWiper -> Help -> About. There is a link to the upgrade page of your version - check upgrades. Establish Internet connection and visit this page.

1) QuickWiper have a trial period, so you cannot use it after 15 days.
